Bearke and Hare – A2 Print
William Burke and William Hare are two of Edinburgh’s most infamous historical residents. They were body snatchers and murderers who made money from the need of bodies for medical research in 17th Century Scotland. They and their wives were caught and tried for 16 murders in 1828, with Burke being hanged and Hare escaping justice by blaming his fellow murderer. Hare left Edinburgh after the trial and little is known of what became of him. Burke’s body was used for medical research and his skeleton is still exhibited at Edinburgh’s Anatomical Museum..
This playful print featuring Burke and Hare, or Bear and Hare, was created by Mister Peebles for a Halloween Window Exhibition in October 2017.
