Bride Celtic Goddess Card by Abbie Lois
A6 Greeting Card of original screen print ‘Brìde’.
The story of Brìde goes that she was taken captive by Beira, the Scottish personification of winter (or, in more general terms, the Cailleach as she’s better known). Beira was fearsome in winter, and she was jealous of the youth of Brìde. Brìde there for many dark months until the King of Summer, Angus found her trapped. He advised Brìde to show Beira some young plants and tell her that it was spring once again, as Beira didn’t have her powers in these months. The day that she was released traditionally marks Imbolc, the pagan festival of spring.
