A beautiful book of raven-themed poems by acclaimed Glasgow-based poet Nalini Paul, with images and design by Catherine Hiley. Simple and striking imagery in stark black and white with a dash of vivid red adds to the reading of these gorgeous poems.
Drawing on myths from Orkney, Shetland and Canada, the work charts the trickster’s wicked and knowing ways through changing landscapes of memory, revenge, punishment and redemption.
In 2014 Nalini Paul and Catherine Hiley worked together in a joint project by Edinburgh Printmakers and the Scottish Poetry Library to produce the limited edition Artist’s Book of Hrafn Floki, which was bought by the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art for their Special Books Collection, as well as by Edinburgh University Library.
The Raven’s Song is Nalini and Catherine’s second project together. Drawing inspiration from raven-and-crow myths from Orkney, Shetland and Canada, the book was funded by Ankur Productions and Creative Scotland.
