There’s something special about wildflowers. Becky often uses the phrase ‘if it grows together it goes together’ when selecting colours. But the collection of colour found in wildflowers far exceeds any palette she could put together.
So it has been on her mind for a while to create a print from wildflower data. But she hadn’t come across the right data until a conversation last July led her to the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland.
Seven months later and it’s finally here. The print uses detailed data describing the plant coverage across the UK split into 10km squares. So hundreds of thousands of data points.
The result is this corn meadow, which focuses specifically on wildflowers such as poppies, cornflowers and corn marigolds. Each blade of grass has been drawn from data, indicating these 10km squares of land. The distribution of flowers is shown by the flowers themselves ordered by grid reference.
These flowers only grow within a certain height range but the taller the flower (within their range) the more populous they are within that area.
