The Smallish House was founded by Anna Oswald, a textile designer and Kate Frayne, a lover of all things sewing.
As both Mamas and creatives, they aspire to create a business that can work for them and their young families. They set to work on a stylish and playful collection of homewares and accessories for design conscious families.
The Smallish House wanted to help create a magical world that could spark imaginations in the young and old. Could it be a favourite toy shop, a wondrous place where those truly nostalgic childhood memories form or a cafe that serves the very best pink milk and cake? Maybe a tree that is just the best for climbing or has the best tree house? These everyday moments inspire the patterns and illustrations from The Smallish House.
In their home studio, designer Anna uses traditional techniques including lino print, mono print, and collage to create wonderful and whimsical designs that can be loved by adults and children alike. The design process thoughtfully combines the narrative of the everyday, with traditional printmaking to produce playful, imaginative surface patterns.
The designs are printed in the UK on fabric using environmentally friendly non toxic pigment dyes. Beautiful lengths of fabric are transformed into final products by Kate, the product designer and maker. All pieces are cut by hand, and sewn at home; a true kitchen table business!
