Caledonian Boar / Scottish Folklore – A3 Print by Abbie Lois
Although sadly extinct in Scotland now, wild boar were once a common sight in Scottish forests, and as a result, you can find numerous place names inspired by them in the Gaelic landscape – look for ‘torc’ or ‘tuirc’ on a map. Boars often feature in folklore across the Celtic landscape – such as in Ireland the story of Diarmuid & Grainne, in Wales the Twrch Trwyth, and in Scotland the boar is sometimes linked to the Cailleach, a goddess figure known as a creator, weather deity and guardian of the land.
A3 print approx 29.7cm x 42cm – Digital print on 250gsm cotton paper. Please note, print comes unframed.
