In Scottish and Irish folklore, the Cailleach is a powerful goddess figure known as a creator, weather deity and guardian of the land and its wild animals. She is said to have been of a great size, and created the mountains of Scotland by dropping rocks from her creel or apron as she strode across the landscape.
