Modern Alchemy

Modern Alchemy is a jewellery brand created by Annie Lewis. Minimal handmade jewellery, designed for modern day wear in her studio in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, UK.

Modern Alchemy aims to create timeless jewellery that can be worn everyday, in Sterling Silver, and will stand the test of time. Modern Alchemy jewellery is made by hand on a small scale, in contrast to the throw away, mass produced fashion of today. Annie endeavors to make as much of her jewellery out of recycled sterling silver (sometimes known as EcoSilver) as possible, to lessen the enviromental impact.

EcoSilver is made from 100% recycled silver products like scrap jewellery and medical equipment, which is melted down to make more bullion. A greener alternative to newly mined sterling silver, but with the same purity (925).

Annie originally studied History at University but has always been a bit of a magpie! After life moved in an unexpected direction she ended up on a path to becoming a jeweller. As soon as she made her first silver ring she fell in love with silversmithing and Modern Alchemy came into fruition in 2014.
Annie likes clean lines in her jewellery and is inspired by shapes, architecture and artist movements like Minimalism. In contrast Annie also likes rocky surfaces taking influence from natural forms like the Moon. By using simple shapes and subtle textures Annie hopes to successfully combine these influences to highlight the beauty of the materials used.
When she isn’t at her bench making, Annie likes walking in woods, bird watching, taking photos, shopping for antiques and browsing independent shops.
